Repetitive CNN News is Boring NewsAfter the Third Time Around a Recycled News Story Is No Longer NewsPresidential campaign bloopers, electioneering hype, running mate selection, kidnapped child, star's murder: Crises after crises, life goes on, but somehow CNN doesn't.
Many news events are headlines for one day. Strangely, it takes CNN double time to move on. Meanwhile, networks are on top of half a dozen other stories. Why this CNN gridlock? News Focus Good but Time Line DeadlyCNN’s general agenda has been focused, via Lou Dobbs, on immigration reform (or failure to reform) for months. Why not move this along? Interview more unbiased experts. Ask legislators why they, too, can’t get off the dime. The pace of world events is fast. It’s depressing to think that six months from now CNN may be singing the same immigration song instead of informing listeners why there is no forward movement. The topic deserves news focus, but repetitive airings without new twists make for a deadly time line. While CNN was still stuck in its immigration hole, viewers were yanked out by the fast track Clinton-Obama presidential nomination race, the Myanmar cyclone, an earthquake in China and myriad newsworthy events. Why CNN Gridlock? Many important issues are not readily solved. Yet, CNN's competitors manage to keep coverage fresh by digging into how issues developed and reporting the latest ongoing actions. There are creative interviews with those involved and those affected. Why the CNN gridlock with recycled stories ad nauseum? Is the root cause budgetary, lack of creative opportunity, or is CNN playing viewers instead of issues? CNN coverage of the Texas court case resulting from Mormon children being taken from parents was excellent. The wide range of persons interviewed spoke of journalistic integrity in trying to present multiple viewpoints. Why then, day after day, did viewers keep seeing the same replays? Watch Dogs of American FreedomLou Dobbs did a service to the United States by pointing out that foreigners were running its ports and, perhaps, compromising national security. Kudos, Lou! CNN has bucked governmental authority and questioned those high in the government superstructure. This is how press and media serve and preserve democracy. It is consonant with the mandate founding fathers of the United States thought necessary to ensure ongoing freedom. Be watch dogs of American freedom, but don’t spoon feed viewers so much “undeveloping” news. It evokes an image of constant slobbering intead of moving on with the harvest of facts citizens need to be an informed, responsible electorate, or participants in important events that shape lives. CNN Discrediting Its Own CredibilityRemember that Hillary-Obama meeting? Viewers were told they were meeting that hour at Clinton's house. Then they weren’t. They were meeting someplace. Privately. Aides weren’t invited. Imagine: 18 hours of on again, off again. Coverage? No, it was just feeding viewers mostly unfounded pap! CNN wasn't in the loop. Why, at this disadvantage, did CNN pretend it was covering a news event? Surely CNN would not deliberately try to discredit its own credibility! Don't expect an audience to be catered to, hour after hour, with no-new-source news. Alternatives are available with a punch on the remote control.
